01 Feb Eruptions in Year 5.
For the stunning starter to their new topic ‘Extreme Earth’, Year 5 made their very own active volcanoes! Using modroc, an empty water bottle and newspaper the children painted them to resemble some of the volcanoes they have been learning about in English such as Mount Vesuvius. Their incredible ‘lava’ was made out of bicarbonate of soda, mixed with a little bit of red food colouring- to make it look extra scorching hot and finally, vinegar! It was a lot of fun, especially when there was a mass eruption in the playground when they tested out how realistic their volcanoes were!
