23 Feb Sensational sandwich sale!
Over the last few weeks, the children have been learning about the process of sandwich making. First of all the children planned healthy sandwiches, relating our Science and P.S.H.E units. Using the skill of market research the children carried out questionnaire which was filled out by the rest of the school. Prior to the sandwich sale, the children created posters enticing their prospective customers to buy their delicious sandwiches! On Thursday 22nd February, the children excitedly made their final products – tantalizing, healthy and nutritious sandwiches! Well done to all of Year 3! An excellent ending to a skilled-filled unit.
Yenula De Alwis has given us his take on the DT project:
When we started DT, we learnt the key skills. We planned and had various ideas by working together. We designed a picture of how we would like our wonderful sandwiches to look when we made it and labelled it. This was a fun and exciting lesson. Before we designed the sandwich, we needed to answer some simple questions about sandwiches.
The next lesson we had boxes on a paper and there were long, straight lines, one box said what spreads are you going to use? The other box said what fillings are you going to use? Everyone understood we needed to use some healthy fillings and spreads so it’s better for your growth. The third lesson was my favourite. We did fantastic posters on why the customers should come to our sensational, glorious sandwich sale. Finally, we carefully cut out the boxes we wrote in, and stuck the boxes in any place we wanted to on any coloured paper we prepared. I stuck mine on a bright yellow paper! I could have improved and reviewed my poster by writing a bit more and telling them about the sandwich sale a bit more.
On the last day of our sandwich sale we made our sandwiches. After we buttered the soft breads, using steel, sharp butter knives, we passed it on to the next table to fill it. We also used mayonnaise. Everyone was working like a factory.
