27 Feb Book week at Holy Trinity!
It’s Book Week at Holy Trinity. We have lots of fun activities planned. Already, Years 5 and 6 have explored the story of the Enormous Crocodile, by Roald Dahl, through dance and drama. On Tuesday, Year 3 and 4 will be using dance and drama to venture into Wonderland with Alice.
On Thursday, Rebecca Hutchins – a storyteller – returns to our school after her successful visit last year, to share more tales of adventure and fun. Thursday is also World Book Day and the children and staff will be dressing up as their favourite book characters – there will even be prizes for the best costume in each year group.
On Friday, it’s our annual Performance Poetry Competition. Throughout the week, each class will audition entrants and choose their favourite 1 or 2 winners to go through to the final in the hall on Friday afternoon. As always we’re expecting some funny, entertaining performances of lots of different types of poem. Prizes will be awarded to the best poet from each year group.
All week, there is also the opportunity for children to enter to 100 Word Writing Competition. The theme is fantasy and we’re looking forward to reading the 100 Word stories that are entered. The competition will be judged by our Reading Ambassadors. See the rules below and enter!
In the corridor outside the school library there is a new challenge in the form of our 200 Books to Read Before You Leave Key Stage 2 display. Have a look the next time you are passing – how many of the titles have you read? Not all 200 are on display yet – we’ll keep rotating them throughout the year – so keep your eyes open for some great suggestions for what to read.
Don’t forget to visit the school library this week to find some books by our new Author of the Month for March – Terry Pratchett; to get book recommendations from our Reading Ambassadors; write book reviews to share and to find some great books to read from our huge collection of good reads.
