16 Mar Carmen – the Year 6 remix
Yesterday, (Thursday 15th March) Chestnut and Pine classes both put on a mini-Opera to parents and visitors in the hall!
For the past 9 weeks in their music lessons with Mrs Smith, Chestnut and Pine classes have been learning about opera in a special project with partnership with the Royal Opera House! At the start of the term most of us knew very little about opera, perhaps thinking it was too posh, too high, too expensive and too hard… but we now know that’s not true. In fact we have discovered that actually, opera is simply ‘story telling through song’. We have learnt the story of Bizet’s famous opera ‘Carmen’ (a dramatic story with love, soldiers, arrests, runaways, bullfighters and death!) and learnt a few of its most well-known songs as well, sung with our most expressive singing voices.
Both classes really impressed the teachers, their families and the visitors from Sutton Music Service and the Royal Opera House with their performance yesterday, showing confident performing, singing together, in harmony and some solos, and demonstrating their acting skills too. Well done Pine and Chestnut classes!
