Hotspotters
Our Hotspotters are year 6 children who help to make the school a place where children feel safe and can speak openly about any problems they are having on the playground.
The aim of a Hotspotter is to act as a helpful friend and mediator where necessary, to provide children with problem solving skills and therefore reduce potential conflict. Hotspotters receive training before they begin their role which enables them to create a safe environment and allows disputing children to be heard, to listen and assist them by working out a mutually acceptable outcome.
As the Hotspotters are trained not to force solutions upon the children, they encourage disputants to take responsibility for their actions and deal with their disagreement constructively. The conflicts dealt with by the Hotspotters include friendship issues, rumour spreading and some verbal disputes. The Hotspotters are also trained to know when they should inform a member of staff and give the issues to an adult.
