At Holy Trinity we believe in no barriers to learning in Art. We strive to develop techniques in a fun and creative environment where there is no right or wrong.
Our aim is to make sure all children are learning the key skills in art in addition to experimenting and fostering an awareness of different kinds of art and design. Not only do we want the children to express themselves through different styles of art but also through increasing their understanding of different materials and how they can use them to reflect and refine their styles. We also look to inspire them through learning about different artists, architects and designers and celebrating their own successes.
We believe that art is a powerful form of self-expression and a window into different cultures and time periods. Throughout their journey, our pupils explore a diverse range of artistic styles and techniques. In Year 4, they embark on creative projects such as crafting Lizard Street, inspired by their reading, and even bringing Krindlekrax’s eye to life with clay. We encourage students to unleash their creativity and participate in local and national art competitions, showcasing their talents. From prehistoric cave art and Stonehenge to the vibrant works of Van Gogh, Picasso, and Hokusai, our pupils delve into a rich tapestry of artistic expression. They explore Anglo-Saxon and Tudor art, appreciate the intricate patterns of William Morris, and marvel at the architectural genius of Peter Thorpe. They even try their hand at Ancient Greek-inspired pottery and experiment with the bold colours of Pop Art. Through it all, our young artists develop their skills, broaden their horizons, and discover the joy of creating. We also use art as a way of expressing the meaning of our school values and spiritual reflection.
