The children are taught, in a variety of ways, including through song and rhyme to understand initially how the sounds are made and linking these to spelling then word meaning. We aim to develop accurate pronunciation through conversation; asking and answering questions and expressing opinions. Through storytelling, songs, poems and rhymes children begin to appreciate the language and grasp a wider range of vocabulary. By the end of KS2 children should be able to describe people, places, things and action orally and in writing.
