Pupils will increase their range and understanding of spoken, read and written vocabulary, with core vocabulary that returns and develops as they progress through the school as well as topic-specific words. They will also develop knowledge of the similarities and differences in the grammar and pronunciation rules between different languages.

Children are encouraged and supported to develop their speaking and listening skills through conversational work, singing activities and games. They develop French reading and writing skills by responding through pictures, captions and sentences. End of unit challenges and end of year quizzes help children to retrieve and retain their vocabulary knowledge.
