We have high ambitions and expectations for all our pupils and Holy Trinity is committed to ‘Diminishing the Difference’ for vulnerable pupils. The effective utilisation of the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) forms a vital part of that process.
Pupil Premium was introduced by the government in April 2011. It provides additional funding to address the gap in educational attainment and long term economic well-being between socially disadvantaged children, young people and their peers. Socially disadvantaged pupils have been defined as pupils eligible for free school meals (FSM) at some point in the last six years. Children whose parents are currently employed by the armed services also qualify for additional funding.
In 2013 the DfE introduced Pupil Premium Plus for looked after and previously looked after children. In doing this, the DfE acknowledged the enduring impact of trauma and loss in children’s lives and the key role of schools in supporting children who have had a difficult start in life.
Pupil premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving FSM will be in receipt of Pupil Premium interventions at one time. It is the responsibility of the Head Teacher in consultation with the Governing Body and other key staff to decide on how to spend the funding but schools will be held accountable to show impact of the interventions and resources funded by the grant.
